Track digital traffic from Text and Email communication via Club OS using UTM codes for Google or other analytics platforms. This will help track the success of campaigns and understanding what is working best to help with future marketing decisions.
Setting up Websites and Landing Pages for Analytics
To begin tracking digital traffic using an analytics tool, each website or landing page will need to be connected to your analytics platform so that the UTM codes can be read and tracked.
Building destination URLs with UTM parameters
Build a custom CTA (call to action) URL (link to website, landing page or digital space) for each campaign/promotion/etc that will be added to text an/or email communication. A new URL should be built for at least each new campaign or promotion and preferably for each piece of content if links will be used in different parts of an email content block (such as Top Banner and Button).
Start by choosing the values for each parameter type to track
-
utm_source = What is driving the traffic
- example: ClubOS
-
utm_medium = Marketing medium used
- example: email
-
utm_campaign = Campaign or promotion that is being offered
- example: blackfridaysale
- utm_term: Paid search keywords (optional)
-
utm_content: Content where the URL is linked (option)
- example: topbanner
Once the parameters are selected, use a URL builder such as https://ga-dev-tools.google/campaign-url-builder/ to build a custom URL.
Example of a URL with UTM parameters:
Using URLs with UTM parameters
When adding a CTA (call to action) URL, use the custom URL the same way a regular URL is used. For example, instead of linking to www.club-os.com, add this instead https://www.club-os.com?utm_source=ClubOS&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=blackfridaysale&utm_content=topbanner

If a URL is also going to be used on the content block for the 'Join Now' button, change the utm_content=topbanner --> utm_content=button and then place the link in the URL field
